A Premium Sod Designed Specifically for Alberta Conditions
Our premium Bluegrass Fescue Turfgrass is a blend of select bluegrass and creeping fescue. Our turfgrass is grown to maturity under irrigation on Alberta's richest soils.
At KOR Irrigation and Landscape, we only sell the freshest sod available. We ensure that only the best available sod gets sold to each and every customer.
Below you will find recommendations for preparing and maintenance of your sod.
Laying sod is heavy work! People who are not accustomed to physical labour should pace themselves accordingly.
Contact KOR Irrigation and landscape to install for you! KOR can usually have this installed for you within 3 days of your order at a great price!
- Remove all debris from the area.
- Grade and shape the area to desired contours.
- Add peat moss to improve the soil composition if desired. Use two to four bales (approximately 150 litres each) per 100 square meters.
- Add top soil (if required) to make the area to be sodded 8 to 10 centimetres (cm) deep.
- Rototill the soil to a depth of 8 to 10 cm. First till in one direction, then crosswise.
- Add 5-20-20 (or similar) fertilizer at the rate of 7 kilograms per 100 square meters. Incorporate the fertilizer by lightly rototilling or raking to a depth of 5 cm.
- Rake the surface smooth and even. Roll lightly and smooth again as required to remove rough areas and depressions.
- To lay the first row, start from a straight line, such as a curb or driveway. Another option is to run a taut string up the middle of the area and begin the first row along that string.
- Rake the area smooth just before laying the sod.
- Lay sod in brickwork fashion (as illustrated below).

- Butt all joints tightly together without overlapping.
- Stake the sod on steep slopes to prevent slippage.
- Cut the sod with a sharp knife or edger to fit odd shapes and small areas (as illustrated below).

- Go over the area with a thrid-filled roller to press the roots to the soil.
- Saturate the area with water immediately!
- Follow the watering and mowing recommendations for three weeks as detailed in the calendar below.
